1928 - 2002

Alices Obituary, July 2, 2002 Funeral services for Alice Larsen Kurland, 74, will commence with visitation from 9:00am to 10:00am, Saturday, July 6, at Christ Lutheran Church, 41 South Rohlwing Road, Palatine, followed by the service at 10:00am. A private, family burial will follow the service. Alice was born April 29th,
1928 in Racine, Wisconsin. She passed away
July 2nd, after a prolonged and courageous war against cancer. Although she could not win the war, Alice won a
personal battle against cancer when she overcame tremendous hardship to see one more
birthday of her husband and each of her six children after learning of the disease in
September, 2001. Her goal fulfilled, she
chose to cease her struggle, and with loved ones nearby, peacefully passed away in the
early morning hours. Alice, the youngest of
seven children, was raised on a farm in Union Grove, Wisconsin. Throughout her life she maintained strong ties to
the students with whom she shared the small, one-room Waites Corners schoolhouse a few
miles down the road from the family farm. Alice met her husband,
Murray, while both were working at A-P Controls, and they enjoyed a two-year courtship
before being married on August 7, 1954. Alice remained a devoted
wife to Murray for 48 years, raising six successful children who have borne her eight
grandchildren. Throughout her too short life,
she provided calm in the face of chaos as one friend described, a sense of dignity
after electing to trade her administrative career for the more challenging and
rewarding careers of wife, mother, and grandmother. She
will be fondly remembered and sorely missed by her many loved ones for the sense of
comfort she brought to a room, her frequent smiles and hearty laughs, her home-baked
cinnamon bread, and her undying devotion to her husband, her children, her friends, and
loved ones. Alice leaves behind her
devoted husband, Murray; children, Carrie (Mike) Fisher, Todd (Amy Swift) Kurland, Amy
(Steve) Malambri, Lissa (Keith) Parr, Eric (Lisa) Kurland, and Rob Kurland; grandchildren,
Rachel, Sophia, Jackson, Carly, Lucas, Maclane, Connor, and Cameron; and sister, Edna
Blaine. Please join the family in a
celebration of Alices life from 4:00pm to 8:00pm on Friday, July 5th at
Ahlgrims Funeral Home, 201 N. Northwest Highway, Palatine. In lieu of flowers, Alice
would appreciate tax-deductible donations to One Step at a Time, c/o Diane Mesh,
Camp Director, 264 Cottonwood Drive, Elk Grove Village, IL. 60007. Alice recently enjoyed a visit to One Step
at a Time, a camp devoted to helping young children with cancer, and would like to
support its continued efforts. |
